Masses defeated misguided minority in elections: Kayani

ISLAMABAD - Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said there were apprehensions regarding holding of elections but the people proved that they only want democracy in the country and they defeated the misguided minority by casting their votes. He said this in a brief chat with media on Wednesday on the occasion of reception hosted by President Asif Ali Zardari in honour of Chinese PM at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. General Kiyani said army provided full support to the Election Commission for maintaining security on the polling day which resulted in a big voters turnout.

Nawaz meets Zardari, discusses current issues

ISLAMABAD - PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad on Wednesday and discussed national issues with him. The President said it is first time in our national history that a smooth transition of power is taking place through democratic process which will certainly further strengthen democracy and state institutions. President Asif Ali Zardari said that Nawaz Sharif will enjoy full cooperation from Aiwan-e-Sadr as Prime Minister. The President said that it is the time that all political forces should work together for making Pakistan prosperous and developed country. He appreciated Nawaz Sharif for his policy of reconciliation and hoped it will lead to address the problems of the country. On a question regarding support to PML-N for Prime Ministerhip‚ President Zardari said he has nothing to do with the politics and it is the job of Makhdoom Amin being Party President to take any decision. However‚ he said that he considers Nawaz Sharif as Prime Minister even now. Later, talking to media after a meeting with President Zardari, Nawaz Sharif said the policy of reconciliation initiated by Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto will continue to jointly steer the country out of crisis. He said that we will forget past bitterness and will move forward to resolve the problems being faced by the people and the country.

     

Pak-China ties to flourish forever: Chinese PM

ISLAMABAD:- Speaking at luncheon hosted in his honour in Islamabad on Wednesday, Chinese Premier said he has selected Pakistan for his official visit to give a clear and loud message to the international community that whatsoever happens at the international scene, our relations with Pakistan will continue to flourish and further strengthen. He said both the countries have deep-rooted relations which have been developed by every passing generation. He said his country will continue to extend cooperation to Pakistan for its progress and development. Chinese Premier said his visit aimed at consolidating the time-tested friendship with Pakistan and show the world that China intends to continue this partnership. He appreciated President Asif Ali Zardari for his pivotal role in giving new dimension to Pak-China relations. He said China wants long lasting relation with Pakistan to further grow in future in all fields.

Addressing on the occasion‚ President Asif Ali Zardari has appreciated Chinese stead fast support for Pakistan sovereignty‚ territorial integrity and independence. Prime Minister‚ PML-N leader Mian Nawaz Sharif and all other main political leaders also attended the meeting. The President said Pakistan deeply appreciates Chinese support in its economic development. He said regardless of political outlook, every government in Pakistan has reinforced Pakistan s relations with China. Earlier both leaders held one on one meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr which was focused on further boosting Pak-China relations in various fields. President Zardari said that choosing Pakistan for his first visit after assuming power demonstrates depth of time-tested friendship between the two countries. He said it will prove another landmark in our relations which will go a long way in further strengthening our relations. The President said Pakistan wants to take advantage of the Chinese experiences in its socio-economic development. President Zardari said Pakistan is moving towards peaceful‚ democratic transition of power after general elections and hoped the newly elected government will continue to work for further cementing relations with Chinese government and people. He invited Chinese investors and businessmen to come Pakistan and taking advantage of lucrative investment opportunities should also contribute in our economic development‚ especially overcoming power crisis. Earlier‚ Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang and President Asif Ali Zardari held one-on-one meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr and focused on further expanding bilateral cooperation in diverse fields and strengthening existing strategic partnership between the two countries. President Asif Ali Zardari conferred Nishan e Pakistan on the Chinese Prime Minister for his meritorious services for strengthening Pak-China relations. Caretaker prime minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso‚ PML-N Chief Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and other political leaders were also present.

43 newly elected independent MPs join PML-N

ISLAMABAD - The independent newly elected members of National Assembly who joined PML-N include, Dr Muhammad Afzal Khan, Sahibzada Nazir Sultan, Najaf Abbas Sial, Muhammad Ijaz Chaudhry, Sadique Khan Baloch, Abdur Rehman Kanju, Raza Hayat Hiraj, Tahir Iqbal Chaudhry, Awais Leghari, Ashiq Hussain Khan, Syed Muhammad Asghar and Khusro Bakhtiar. Meanwhile, 31 newly elected members of Punjab Assembly who joined PML-N include, Faisal Farooq Cheema, Sardar Bahadur Khan Maken, Ameer Muhammad Khan, Ghazanfar Abbas Cheena, Amir Inayat Shahani, Rai Usman Khan, Nasimullah, Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal Nagra, Khuram Abbas Sial, Muhammad Aun Abbas, Ali Asghar Manda, Tahir Mehmood Bajwa, Muhammad Amir Iqbal Shah, Pirzada Jahangir Sultan, Malik Sajjad Joya, Muhammad Siqqique Khan Baloch, Muhammad Akbar Hayat Hiraj, Chaudhry Muhammad Yousuf Kasela, Naeem Akhtar Bhaba, Javed Akhtar, Syed Abdul Aleem, Jamal Leghari, Muhammad Zeeshan Gurmani, Malik Gulam Murtaza Rahim Khar, Mian Alamdar Abbas Qureshi, Muhammad Sabtain Raza, Amir Talal Khan, Chaudhry Ashfaq Ahmad, Sardar Nawaz Khan, Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar and Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht. PML-N has got simple majority in the National Assembly and it has secured more than two-third majority in Punjab Assembly.
