Hosts Provincial Science Fair in Sindh Young Scientists Compete for Opportunity to Represent
Pakistan at the Intel International Science and Engineering
Fair 2011 Karachi, December 08, 2010 – Intel Pakistan today held
the closing ceremony of Sindh Science Fair in the run-up to
the Intel® International Science and Engineering Fair
(Intel® ISEF), one of the world's largest pre-college
science competitions. During the Sindh Science Fair,
students from across Sindh presented research-based projects
in the categories of biology, chemistry, computer sciences,
mathematics and physics. More than 200 students from all
over the province participated in the fair. Present at the
occasion was Raza Haroon, Minister of IT, Sindh Government,
as the chief guest.
Winners of
the Sindh Science Fair will proceed to compete at the
National Science Fair, which will take place in January
2011. Projects will be assessed by a panel of renowned
judges, with winners progressing to Intel® ISEF.
Intel® ISEF is the world’s largest science fair and the
only global science competition for students in grades
9-12. In 2011, more than 1,500 young scientists from all
across the world will gather to exchange ideas and
knowledge, showcase cutting-edge science and compete for
more than US$4 million in awards and scholarships. The
event will be held from May 8-13, 2011 in Los Angeles,
California.
“Intel has been holding the Science Fairs for the
past six years in Pakistan. We are aiming to furnish
more opportunities to young people in schools to learn
about technology and problem-solving skills, and hope to
secure the next generation of innovators, thought
leaders and role models,” explained Naveed Siraj,
Country Manager, Intel Pakistan. “It is promising to
note such overwhelming interest from students in the
areas of Science and Engineering. We are appreciative of
the government’s support towards this initiative, which
is aimed at encouraging research-based learning in
schools all across Pakistan.”
School Reconstruction Compels
Students of Absenteeism By Mansoor Pirzada
GHOTKI Government P. High School Daharki has been
lying closed since last 15 months due to the
reconstruction of the old building of 1919.
Building of that school was ruined and was ordered
for the reconstruction by the concerned authorities.
The contract was given to a contractor in the 78
hundred thousand with the deadline of completing
within three months. School was evacuated in April
2009 for the reconstruction. The School building
comprises of 20 rooms and had to be demolished
completely and reconstructed but it was demolished
partially and the partial reconstruction had been
started in April 2009; which has not completed 6
rooms of the school within last 15 months.
Reconstructed rooms have been ruined again after the
heavy rainfall of last few days. Reports said that
when the rooms of schools were demolished its scrap
which included T-iron, iron rods, iron guarders,
doors, windows and recycled bricks were distributed
among the teachers for their personal use, without
any auction.
More than 2000 students of Govt. P. High School
Daharki are directed to get education in Main
Government Primary School Daharki in the evening
shift, which has disturbed the students and halted
the education process of the High School students.
Students are unable to
attend the classes because they had to come from
various villages of the Taluka situated many
kilometers far, and to return back; afternoon shift
ends at late evening, students from the villages are
unable to catch the public transport which compels
them of being absent from the school. Parents from
the villages of the students have cried that law and
order situation of the district is worsen, so that
they are afraid of sending their children to the
school in the city. Head Master of

School Daharki, Manzoor Ahmed Pathan told that he
has been in touch with the authorities to complete
the reconstruction and demanded of high ups for the
completing of reconstruction.
Several social societies have awakened to get the
issue resolved. Citizens, Parents, Students,
Political and non political leaders have started a
series of protest in this regard. Chairman, Al-Hafiz
Society, Abdul Qadeer Kanju said that education
departments officials also did not pay attention to
this issue.
When contacted the concerned officials of Education
Department District Ghotki averted to give any
comment in this regard.

The Prime Minister has directed
for early establishment of IT Institutes in under-developed
areas to equip the youth with the latest knowledge and
skill. Prime
Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has called for early
establishment of IT Institutes in under-developed areas to
equip the youth with the latest knowledge and skill.
Chairing a meeting in Islamabad he directed that preference
for setting up such institutions should be given to places
where infrastructure in the shape of University or College
is already available. The Prime Minister asked the Ministry
of Information Technology to conduct fresh survey of various
under-developed areas on urgent basis to determine the exact
needs for the IT Institutes and Universities. The Secretary
Information Technology said that twenty thousand IT
graduates are being produced annually.
Hamdard

Karachi: Chancellor Hamdard University Senator S.M. Zafar
has said that, some people thought that terrorism could be
controlled by strengthening the law, the secrete agencies
and judicial system but in his view terrorism could be
curbed by spreading education in the country. “Peace can be
achieved through the book and through bombs:, he added. He
said that knowledge and technology had made tremendous
progress and the modern surgery was touching those sensitive
parts of the body, which was unthinkable some times back.

He made a born blind girl Sara, who was a law graduate, sit
on the chair of Chief Guest. He said that Hamdard University
was the only private university which gave degrees on the
same day of convocation. In future Hamdard University’s
degrees would be computerized and put on internet in order
to end any possibility of fake degrees. However no Hamdard
University degree was fake so far, he added.
Earlier vice chancellor, Hamdard University, Prof; Dr. Nasim
A Khan submitted annual report of university at the
convocation. Total 1388 degrees were given in convocation,
71 0 regular student of 88 in absence in faculties of
Hamdard University. Hamdard University Gold Medals were
given to 33 students on their best academic performance and
Shaheed Hakim Mohammad Said Gold Medals were given to 8 best
students of the university. Mrs. Sadia Rashid, President,
Hamdard Foundation Pakistan offered vote of thanks. Besides
nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, elite of the city,
foreign diplomats, educationist, distinguished guest,
parents, teachers and students in a large number attended
the convocation.

than 4000 Students waiting for Admit Cards to Appear in the
Exams
RAWALPINDI: Matriculation
exams are going to kick off on Saturday in Rawalpindi under
Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE),
however, more than 4000 students have not been given admit
cards as yet. Boards officials said that government of
Punjab introduced online system to conduct matriculation
papers but complained that the system countered many errors.
They said the official website of BISE Rawalpindi is not
updated, adding that over 4000 students could not be issued
admit cards, resulting in troubles for pupils.

Adult Literacy Programme successfully completes 8th phase Karachi: Pakistan's leading

ned to look for big grants or anything like that. You, me
can sit together and do it. All we need is awareness."

indicators. In 2010 alone, the porgram was run in three back
to back cycles, helping 2300 women to read and write. In
2011 we intend to continue our growth momentum around TCF

The Aagahi Adult Literacy Programme consists of four books
(three Urdu and one basic arithmetic book) developed by
Literate Pakistan Foundation. This course is called Jugnoo
Sabaq and can be taught in shor span of three months at two
hours per day for six days a week. On successful completion,
a previously illiterate person can read and write Urdu and
do simple arithmetic. This is possible via a special
phonetic system of teaching. Teachers are trained by LPF.
TCF provides schools premises and teachers while National
Foods bears cost of the books and stipends for the teachers.

The
Society for Promotion of Arabic Language (SPAL)
was established
in February 1973 for the purpose of popularizating
the Language of Holy Quran and of our Exalted
Prophet(Peace be upon Him), in the metropolitan city
of Karachi. The society has been registered under
the Societies Registration Act, 1860. Since its
inception it has conducted regular courses to equip
the desiring individuals with the language skills
for different levels of proficiency.
The Society has all along tried to spread the
knowledge of Arabic language usingup-to-date
techniques and skills of linguistic education. So
far, ovar 28000 students have been educated and
awarded certificates after successful completion of
Basic, Advanced and Quranic Courses.

produce products that differentiate them from the

talent at the grass root level to help, design and run
“LADIESFUND® App” being developed for cell phones to educate
girls who have limited access to schooling in their village.
The Fellowship winner will be granted a sum of Rs. 100,000/=
as a prize money, of which Rs. 50, 000/= will be handed over
at the up-coming LADIESFUND® Women Entrepreneurship Awards
Ceremony, to be held on March 5, 2011 (tentative). The
remaining 50,000/= will be paid at the end of the winner’s
one year tenure as a Fellow and upon her completion of a
winning proposal for that year. Moreover, the LADIESFUND®

These Awards are scheduled to be presented to winners at the

PRGTTI-USAID offer program to improve industrial
productivity
KARACHI: The Pakistan Readymade Garment Technical
Training Institute (PRGTTI) in collaboration with USAID
Pakistan has initiated various courses including
employee assessment services at its Career Development
Centre (CDC).
The basic idea of creating CDCs is to improve
organizational effectiveness of the manufacturing units
particularly the export oriented organizations in
Pakistan.
The Chairman, PRGTTI, Razzak Hashim Paracha disclosed
that the employers of such organizations are well aware
of the importance of human capital and its effectiveness
in the success of an organization and the institute with
the assistance of USAID has emphasized the importance of
Identifying valuable differences between an
organizations’ human resource that can lead to
dissatisfaction for both employee and employer.
“Career Development Center, an initiative of USAID is
offering a number of services to employers, assisting
the corporate clients to reach their goals in
identifying right person to fit their slots. It offers
information, trainings, assessment, placement and HR
consulting services to help prepare clients for the
world of work.
Paracha said that PRGTTI Career Development Center is
one of the 15 centers in Pakistan facilitated by USAID
Pakistan Jobs Project.

understanding, facilitation and alignment of employee

معراج احمد صدیقی: میں نے اس اسکول کی بنیاد 1992 میں رکھی اور
جہاں تک نام کا تعلق ہے اس کی دو وجوہات ہیں ، ایک تویہ ہر طرف
انگلش میڈیم اسکول انگلش ناموں سے منسوب کیے جاتے ہیں ، جو کہ مجھے
بہت نامناسب محسوس ہوتا تھا ۔ دوسری میری کوشش تھی کہ کوئی ایسا
نام تجویز کیا جائے جس کی تاریخ سے وابستگی ہو ، تحریک آزادی کے
حوالے سے اس کا بھرپور کردار ہو ۔ اور محمد علی جوہر کے نام کی
دوسری وجہ میری ان سے ایک خاص نسبت تھی ، ان کی والدہ بی اماں
ہندستان کے جس گاؤں سے تھیں میں بھی وہیں پیدا ہوا
