Halal Development Project (HDP) made a detailed presentation on "Power
of Halal Branding" at Multan Chamber of Commerce.
Multan: Halal Development Project (HDP) made a detailed presentation
on "Power of Halal Branding" at Multan Chamber of Commerce. The seminar
was arranged by Trade Development Authority of Pakistan - Multan office
in collaboration with Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, to
encourage and promote Halal Product Exports.Various presenters
highlighted Halal products which can be exported from Pakistan and
issued related to industrial infrastructural development. Pakistan has
huge export potential for Dairy, Cattle, Poultry exports as well as
Halal confectionary, beverages and snacks. There was a positive response
from Multan Chambers and its members who attended the seminar.
Highlighting the power of Halal branding, CEO - HDP , Asad Sajjad said
that awareness about world Halal market and its requirements is almost
zero in Pakistan as people here believe that Halal means chicken and
meat only whereas the Halal umbrella covers all the Food & beverage
products and also a lot of Non-Food products. He explained that quality
of Halal products and Halal standards are very high and Halal logo is
considered as a top class brand in the world. This is why Muslims are
not only buying Halal products but non-Muslims also look for Halal
certified items by virtue of their quality and hygiene.Mr Asad informed
that awareness about Halal is higher in those countries where Muslims
are in minority. He said that by the end of 2025, the population of
Muslims in the world would reach to 30 percent of the total global
population and the Halal trade’s share would be even higher then today’s
two trillion dollars.Mr Asad Sajjad was given a certificate of
recognition by MCCI for his valuable presentation on Power of Halal
Branding.Halal Development Project (HDP) is a non-government forum
dedicated to promote the Halal trade & industry. HDP’s mission is to
facilitate Pakistani suppliers by providing platforms for Halal
Awareness, Compliance, Branding, Testing & Certification, Updates,
Investment promotion, Marketing & Industry development. HDP is
organizing the 1st Global Halal Congress in Pakistan in collaboration
with Board of Investment Pakistan. The Congress will be held from 5-6

Thailand to
increase Halal food exports
Thailand aims to expand halal food exports by at least 10% a year
between 2010 and 2014, helped by new strategies to develop more products
for Muslim markets.
A panel on halal industry development, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister
Korbsak Sabhavasu, has approved strategies to develop the industry. They
include a plan to strengthen the potential of the halal industry to meet
world standards and conform to domestic demand; promoting the
competitiveness of entrepreneurs and increase Thailand's capability in
certifying food to Muslim halal standards, expanding markets and
upgrading R&D.
The targeted products are livestock products. The strategy calls for
five southern provinces - Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Satun and Songkhla
- to become the production base for halal products.
The total global halal market is estimated to be worth $635 bln, says
Sabhavasu, adding that Thailand is currently the 5th-largest halal food
exporter, controlling a 5.6% market share.
In 2008, Thai halal exports were worth 5.19 bln baht, up 53.3% from a
year earlier. In the first 7 months this year, exports dropped 26.9% to
2.49 bln on shrinking global consumption.

Global
Halal Expo (GHE):
Pakistan, with over 170 million Muslims, offers easy road access to more
than 235 million Muslims in Asia. It is an important gateway to 56
million Muslims in the Middle East. Welcome to the 1st Global Halal Expo
Pakistan, the most comprehensive sourcing platform of Halal Products &
Services, offering un-matchable opportunity to reach 460 million Muslims
consumers.
www.globalhalalexpo.com
What is
Halal?
Halal means what is permissible in Islam and has direct impact on how
products and services should be Financed, Sourced, Produced, Processed,
Distributed, Stored, Sold and Consumed. The determination of HALAL
product is not limited to meat or food products only but it also
includes a very wide range of products & services.
What is covered under Halal Umbrella?
The global Halal Market is estimated to
be worth US$2 trillion annually, which includes full range of food
products, cosmetics, toiletries, heath care products, finance and supply
chain services. Despite such a huge potential and an existing demand
from over a billion customers, it is still a virgin market for Pakistan
with no awareness about this immense opportunity and its broad spectrum.
The cross-cultural influences and increasing awareness of health-related
benefits have been dominant factors resulting in an increased
acceptability of Halal practice throughout the world. The Halal market
is an ever growing global market, and consistently maturing in
sophistication
Where to find Halal Customers?
Muslim living outside the sub continent and Middle East are the most
potential Halal customers for Pakistani products, as living in countries
of non Muslim majority, they are very conscious of their religious
belief and take care of what they eat and use. It becomes difficult at
times, to search for Halal products, as the suppliers are scarce in most
regions, which creates a big opportunity for selling Pakistani Halal
certified products.
How GHE will help
you!
GHE has identified International buyers of Halal products from around
the world. A “Hosted Buyer Program” has been initiated to ensure the
presence of these buyers in GHE.
Objectives:
-
First ever platform for International buyers to source products and
services from Pakistan.
-
A centralized showcase for Pakistani companies to market their Halal
products.
-
Promote Halal Pakistan brand label as the guarantee for Best Quality
Product.
-
To create Halal awareness in Pakistan and spread information about
issues concerning Halal.

World Muslim Population
The most accurate number of Muslim population is estimated to be 1.73
billion. The Muslim population is growing at the rate of 2.9% per annum
and is expected to be 30% of the world's total population by 2025. With
this high increase, the global demand for Halal food and Shari’ah
compliant products and services will continue to rise with a huge global
demand.
Market Size
As per the latest research by World Halal Forum, quoted in TIME Magazine
(May 2009), the total size of Global Halal food market is worth about
US$ 632 billion in 2009 and if we also include the non-Muslim consumers,
the total figure will be much higher. Halal Industry experts believe the
size of the total global Halal market(for all Halal products and
services) ranges from a minimum of US$ 1 trillion to US$ 2 trillion per
annum.
In Europe, the market size of Halal Foods is estimated to be US$ 66
Billion. France is the largest Halal market in Europe worth over US$ 17
Billion. In the United Kingdom, the sale of Halal meat products only is
worth over US$ 600 million annually. The GCC’s annual Halal food imports
is worth approx US$44 billion while Halal Food Sales in India are
estimated to be worth over US$ 21 billion annually whereas, Indonesia,
the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, has an
annual Halal Food expenditure of over US$ 70 billion with New Zealand
and Australia as its biggest beef suppliers.
The American Muslims spend around US$13 billion on Halal food products
annually but the demand of Halal products is more than double as they
also spend another US$16 billion a year on Kosher products because which
are freely available on the shelves of every main street market.
A recent “Mintel” survey to compare availability of Halal products
versus Kosher products showed that there are almost 1000 Halal certified
products available in North America compare to 86000 Koshar products,
which means that for every Halal product on the shelf, the customers
have 86 Kosher products to choose from.
Why Pakistan
The products and services exported from Pakistan may be popular in sub
continent and middle east but Muslims of different ethnic background in
USA, Europe, Africa or even Asia are not familiar with our Brands.
However, they will pick up our products from the shelves if they see the
brand label or logo of Halal on our products.
Halal market is undoubtedly the biggest untapped market for Pakistani
exports. We need to gear up and enter the trillion dollar Halal market
with a brand label of “Halal Pakistan” to capture our share of the huge
HALAL market.

the most of the gigantic market if only its products are branded as ‘Halal’.

Asad Sajjad, Secretary General & CEC Halal Development Council (HDC)

Halal products’ certification to boost exports
Islamabad—The Board of Investment would facilitate private sector to

country. The Halal Pakistan Project would help fight back against all
those odds by attracting the halal market all over the world, he added.
